Hey there! I’m Melissa.
I’m the voice behind One In The Kitchen.
I make the food, take the photos, write the words and wash the dishes. I also get to eat everything, so that’s a perk (most days – sometimes there’s some epic kitchen fails!)
Most days I’m cooking just for me and I started getting really tired of trying to rejig recipes for 4 to something that worked for one. I mean, I love leftovers but 4 days of something isn’t really what you’d call a “varied diet”, is it?
So I started working out how to make things just for me (or me plus one – cuz I really do love leftovers). It involved a lot of math – at first. And a little planning and prepping (but not a lot because… reality).
Now I have the hang of it and I thought it might be nice to share with others in the same boat. You can read more about how One In the Kitchen came to be here.
A Little Bit More About Me
I’m a graphic designer, artist and writer in real life but secretly, I really want to be a rock singer. Unfortunately I can’t sing so… that was that. So my rock star moments are reserved for road trips, the shower and late night solo dance sessions.
I run a small handmade stationery shop, Fine Lime Illustrations, where I sell prints, cards, stickers and other bits and bobs based on my original illustrations. And I own a boutique graphic design and marketing services company, Fine Lime Designs, where I design recipe ebooks and do email marketing for other food professionals. I’m also one of the original, but now retired, co-founders of Food Bloggers of Canada!
I love carbs and cheese and cheesy carbs. Also, chocolate.
I have a dog. He’s a lab. If you know labs you know that means he’s always hungry. This makes us kindred spirits.
I read a lot of mystery novels and watch a lot of British mystery shows (Douglas Henshall in his peacoat). It’s possible I have a mild addiction to the TLC 90 Day Fiance franchise. I’m a snail mail and vintage paper ephemera enthusiast. I also drink a lot of tea and happily embrace becoming an old lady who who wears a big hat while puttering in her garden growing tomatoes.
I’m happy you’re here!
